Fall Foliage: Time to Plan Your Travel for Peak Color this Autumn

Fall Foliage: Time to Plan Your Travel for Peak Color this Autumn

Autumn officially began on September 22nd.  The sun is arcing lower across the sky every day.  Soon, the evenings will be cool, the mornings crisp, and the trees will respond with their annual show of beautiful fall color.

But when will that perfect weekend be to take a drive to see it all?  Fear not, dear friends – for I am here to help.  The internet is a glorious place, full of all kinds of useful information.  Believe it or not, there are organizations that track the moving color line of fall foliage and have turned that info into a handy visual guide for you to reference.

As you can see from the map above, the Four-State region should hit peak color sometime around the 2nd week of October (the week of October 9th, 2016 – to be exact).  Make your plans now to get out and see the beautiful seasonal display.  There are plenty of back roads (and major highways) to pack a lunch and get lost on for a few hours, just marveling at the color all around you.

Enjoy the show while it lasts!

  1. Thank you, Jim.
I am hoping the coast of Maine peaks a bit earlier as I will be in Kennebunkport the first week of October.
