Random Musings:  Spring Editon

Nothing specific today, just some random thoughts that have been roaming around for free in my head this past week:

We’ve all got thoughts and opinions. Here are a few of mine this week. (image credit – dreamtime.com)
  • You don’t realize how much you rely on a stable electric grid until an extended power outage occurs.  The storms last week taught us all that we’re only a few hours away from a fridge/freezer full of spoiled food and an almost unlivable house.  Had it been the dead of winter or the height of summer, the thirteen hours without power (what I experienced) could have made habitation a real challenge (albeit temporary).  Some folks in my area were without power for over two days, so I’m in no real position to complain.  I’ll bet the generator companies and solar salesmen are having a good week post-storm.
  • I’m not a real religious guy, but the late Pope Francis seemed to be like pretty chill pontiff.  I’m sorry to see he’s gone.
  • It seems like once I “break the seal” and mow the grass for the first time, it senses I’m going to take care of it for the summer and grows like wildfire.  Only three weekly mowings in and a long way to go.
  • Does anyone really care if Shedeur Sanders got drafted for the NFL in the 5th round?  Maybe his agent, or possibly his marketing team.  Lots of guys are getting picked that have absolutely zero press (and congrats to them, because the average pro football career is about four years total).  Hope that degree was in something meaningful, Shedeur.
  • People sure are in an uproar over the Parking Garage rates in the City of Hagerstown.  Last I checked it’s still free to park on the street after 5 and on weekends, the Central Lot is also free, but that would mean some folks would have to walk a whole three blocks to get to the stadium for a ballgame.  For God’s sake, stretch your legs.  It’s not the Appalachian Trail.  These are the same folks that actually get in their cars and drive thirty yards to the end of their driveway to get their mail every day.
  • Now that Discovery Station (in downtown Hagerstown) is moving to Ft. Ritchie, what will become of its old location?  Is another downtown building destined to sit empty?  Probably.
  • We received new streetlights in Clear Spring over the last month.  I won’t say that they are significantly brighter, but it looks like a concert could break out at the intersection of Cumberland Street and Martin Street any night after 8:00 PM.  Rock on!
  • With today’s technology, do we still really need the “air raid” siren of four blasts as the call to the local fire station in my little town?  Honestly, you’re scaring the sh*t out of every out-of-state visitor at McDonald’s who is just passing through.

Hope everyone has a great week!

  1. I have so little interest in pro sports (including golf, sorry, Jim) that I didn’t even know there was a draft until I heard the radio this morning. My truck doesn’t have satellite radio. I know, first world problem. Alexa and satellite radio help me avoid the news.

  2. Some random thoughts generated by your post:

I am a religious person and I feel Pope Francis championed ideas that made the World a better place. God bless him

The parking lot at the Hagerstown library is currently free at least until they get the gate fixed

Thankfully I was not at home when the microblast hit or I would have been in the basement closet wondering if the End had come

The Fire Station does a great job and sometimes being a little hard of hearing is a good thing
