Local Christmas Events: So Many Things to See and Do!
In addition to our own busy preparations for the upcoming holiday season, there are so many local events that you can attend or participate in to help get you into the holiday spirit. Tree lighting events, fun runs, live nativities – the four-state area is flush with seasonal splendor. While there are way too many to mention here, listed below are a few of my annual favorites.
Christmas at the Roundhouse
(Hagerstown, MD)
This annual exhibit features the “Trains of Christmas”, a delightful display of multiple “O”scale model trains running through wintery holiday scenes. Also featured are additional “O” and “HO”scale layouts on the 2nd floor of the museum, as well as surprise visits from Santa.
When: Fridays – Sundays from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Hagerstown City Park and Williamsport Park Lights

Who doesn’t love to gaze and wonder at holiday lights? Hagerstown’s City Park has a Christmas tree and illuminated decorations surrounding the park lake. Williamsport’s Byron Memorial Park is transformed into a winter wonderland filled with colorful lights and other scenes, all visible from the warmth and comfort of your vehicle as you drive through the park. Each are illuminated nightly during the holiday season (starting at around 6:00 p.m.) and are both FREE to the public!

Krumpe’s New Year’s Eve “Do-Nut” Drop
(Hagerstown, MD)
Crowds gather in Hagerstown’s Main Public Square to ring in the New Year as a large doughnut is ceremonially dropped to celebrate the arrival of 2019. There will be live music, kid’s activities,free coffee, hot chocolate, and Krumpe’s Do-Nuts (for the first 5,000 people)as well as fireworks. Unlike other New Year’s Eve celebrations, this one is over and done with by 8:00 p.m., so the younger crowd can enjoy it without staying up late.
When: Monday, December 31, 2018 – 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Where: Hagerstown’s Public Square (free parking in the public decks on North and South Potomac Street as well as the Central Lot)
Cost: Free!
Check your local newspaper of Facebook feed for many other holiday festivities going on in the four-state area. There are plenty ofevents running between now and the New Year to enjoy. Get out and see some!
