It’s Not a Goodbye – It’s a Farewell

It’s Not a Goodbye – It’s a Farewell

Well folks, after almost nine years and 483 posts, it’s time for thatfoodandtravelguy.com to come to a close.  I’ve thoroughly enjoyed sharing my stories and view of the world with each and every one of you, and I thank you for taking just a few minutes out of your busy lives to read the scribblings of a raving mad man.

Although I’m saying “goodbye” to this website and blog, I’m not going too far away. (image credit – depositphotos.com)

Simply put, the economics of running the website just didn’t make sense anymore.  My annual subscriptions with my internet provider were coming up for renewal, and I couldn’t justify or rationalize putting a sizeable chunk of cash into something I’m basically doing for free.

That being said, that doesn’t mean I’m not going to write anymore.

I’m moving over to Substack, a platform where I can continue to blog and share my thoughts and ideas – but with much less of a cost burden to bring those stories to you.

My new blog is called “Exit 18”, and in it, I’ll be more focused in my storytelling, sharing the highs and lows of living in a small town.  Oh sure, they’ll be rants, global observations, and maybe even a restaurant review or two, but my focus will be on the town where I live, raised a family, and have loved for many, many years.

Just as in any family, there are things I like and things I don’t, and I’ll give my opinions on both ends.  Also, as any family member will tell you, I can make fun of my drunk uncle or my preening niece, but if you do (and don’t live here – aka “aren’t part of the family”), we may have some words.

Regardless, I encourage you to stop in from time to time and see what’s going on.

You can look for “Exit 18” on Substack (in the search bar) beginning today (Monday, 6/9/25), where I talk about the pending repairs (and pandemonium) that is about to be unleashed with the rebuild of the bridge on Route 40 over the Conococheague Creek.

Come along for the ride.
